The story centers around Frannie Pleasance and her pet store - some of the last non-blud animals in the Blud world are sold through her store.
One morning she comes across a man that appears dead and reminds her of her deceased brother. When she finds him still alive she can't just leave him on the side of the road. She brings Casper Sterling back to her store and offers him lodging.
After an unexplained fire brings firefighter Thom Maccallan into her life, Frannie is not sure of her boarder and wonders if the eccentric musician can be trusted. Since her brothers death, Frannie hasn't trusted anyone and has kept to herself. Can Casper and Thom bring Frannie out of her shell? Will her and Thom find in each other a reason to live again?
I absolutely love the Blud world and can't wait for the next full length book, if you haven't read this novella or the previous book and novella, I highly recommend that you do.
