...or a romance author visiting with other authors and readers.
Ignite Your Soul Author Event
The Ignite Your Soul Author Event was the first one and was held on September 17, 2016 in London, Ontario, Canada. I have never traveled to Canada (except for the one time when we visited Niagra Falls and I stepped over the border just to say I had been LOL) and really had no idea what to expect.
To save on costs we decided to drive up and back all in the same day. I missed the meet and greet, but we saved the hotel cost which on my limited budget is a must. We left early in the morning and arrived at the border just about the time the sun was rising if I remember correctly. Unfortunately, I did not have a passport or my birth certificate. Mr. had told me I didn't need anything other than my driver's license, which was far from the truth. We were detained for 45 minutes as the Immigration Officers searched our luggage and asked a very exhausted and not awake me a bunch of questions. I was informed that coming to Canada was a privilege not a right and sent inside to figure out what we were going to do. I had visions of being held in this in-between land, not on Canadian or US soil for the rest of my life, just for the crime of not having the proper documentation. Thankfully, this was before my daughter had left for college and she was able to take a picture of my birth certificate, which they accepted.
Mr. quickly got back on the road and left the border in our rear-view mirror.
Once at the event, we prepared to greet readers and hoped to sale some books. I was thrilled to have pre-sold one set of my Dásreach and hoped that there would be more interest.
The whole day was amazing. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Note: On the way home, we were informed that you had to have a passport to enter the US, but the border officer was polite and told us to make sure that I had the correct documentation next time. I'm definitely getting myself a passport here in a few months! LOL
Indie Authors Do It Dirty
Held on September 24th in Covington, Kentucky.
It was a small event, but everyone was super nice and I got to sit beside one of my favorite authors, Jayne Rylon. Had a great time chatting and Mr. is so upset that Jayne had the chance to personally meet his all time favorite band, Rush!
After the event we debated staying for the after party, but we had so many hours between the signing and the event that we decided to head back home instead. However, on the way through Cincinnati I finally had the chance to see the Cincinnati Public Library's wonderful book sculpture.
Arch City Author Event
Arch City Author Event was held at the Renaissance Hotel Downtown in Columbus Ohio on October 14 and 15. On Friday we were able to have some really good food and speak to lots of authors and book lovers. There was a DJ and I finally danced near the end. I have absolutely no rhythm -- DD is the dancer.
Saturday was the big day and we got up and arrived at the event around 9:00AM. I had planned on arriving earlier, but it was so hard to get up after only 2 hours and 45 minutes of sleep. We all went to sleep around midnight, but I woke up and I guess I was so excited that I couldn't get back to sleep. But, it was no worry, I had my assistants with me.
The event was well ran and had a lot to keep everyone busy. Open to any genre, several were represented. There was also a tattoo artist on site and many people got new ink. DD, DD2, and I had wanted to get some too, but it hadn't been in the cards. Even so, the girls took my trading cards for the Dásreach Council Novels and my business cards around and handed them out to everyone they could possibly find to give them to. I heard several times how sweet and fun the two of them were. Made me feel wonderful that they wanted to support me in such a way.
After the signing, we heading down to Pins Mechanical Company for the After-Party. We had two hours and no where to go LOL Even so, it was nice to spend time with Mr. and the girls and we soon entered Pins to get something to drink. The place was hopping and had a ton of activities to keep you busy. A bar with 34 different beers on tap among other drinks, pinball machines, duck bowling, and TVs to watch the football games. The food from the Porchetta truck was amazing and so good, I wish I'd had more to bring home with me. It was sad to see the night come to an end, but I brought home a lot of good memories.
