When I began reading, I quickly realized that it was written in British English. Until recently, I hadn't realized the differences between the Brit's version of the language and what us American's mangle... um... use every day. Thankfully a British friend recently informed me that a "vest top" is a "tank top" or I would have wondered. Lots of other words left me a bit flummoxed as well. But, I look at it this way, I had a lovely cultural journey without even leaving my bed. Because, yeah, I began reading this at about midnight in my bed.
I will admit the story started a bit slow for me and a few times I wondered if we could move the story along, but... I could not put the book down. I think I read for about 8 hours straight, before I read the last word.
Poor Rose, there were times I wanted to smack her, times I wanted to cuddle her, and then there was Betty... this book made me cry, laugh, and sigh with happiness. You've been warned.
My recommendation: Read it and give Laura Barnard a try, I believe you will be glad you did.
